PORLOCK Ladies put up a spirited display before losing 2-1 away to Bath City Development in the quarter-finals of the Chairman’s Cup in the Somerset Women’s Football League.
Having made the long journey to Peasedown, what a game it proved to be.
Porlock set out not to make it easy for their opponents and that’s exactly what they did. Both teams started strong and Porlock’s defensive line and keeper Hannah Worth were dealing with everything coming their way.
Kez Elston made a great run through on goal but the flag denied her a ‘goal.’ There was some solid play on the wings from Julie Netherway and Kayleigh Campbell - Farmer who also tracked back all the time to help out.
The middle of Liz Darby, Georgia Perkins, Kez, Aimee James all put in strong shifts in trying to compact the opposition but were also clever in possession. It was goalless at half time.
Bath started strong in the second half and they changed to three at the back and put more pressure on Porlock.
Porlock kept strong and compact and dealt with any trouble. Porlock got their reward when awarded a free kick right on the edge of the box. Kez stepped up to take it with a great power shot which was blocked by the keeper but she couldn’t get hold of it which saw Chloe White take advantage on the rebound to slot home.
Bath still applied pressure but couldn’t get into the box, so a long range shot from outside was what it took to get the equaliser - and what a great goal it was.
Fresh legs came on to help Porlock stay in the game. But in the last two minutes Bath’s top striker of the season snapped up the winning goal. Player of the match: Julie Netherway.
