MINEHEAD hosted Watchet in the first and eagerly awaited local derby in Under 12 South in the Somerset Girls Football League - and the result was a 4-1 win for the home side.

Minehead started strongly and had a created a few scoring chances early on but unfortunately were unable to take their opportunities.

At the other end, howeve, it was Watchet who scored the opening goal of the game. Never a team to give up, Minehead put in a big effort to get the equaliser and with seconds to go until the interval some great link up play saw the hosts score to make it 1-1 at half time.

The second half saw Minehead much stronger in possession and creating more chances to score. Three quick goals without reply gave Minehead a well deserved victory and all three points at the final whistle.

Both teams should be proud of their efforts and it's something to celebrate having two girls teams of this standard in West Somerset.

Saturday, November 16, sees the return league fixture between these two sides as Minehead travel to play against Watchet at Danesfield School where the kick off is at 11-15am. All support is welcome and would be very much appreciated.
