MINEHEAD play they biggest game of the season so far when they entertain leaders Ashton & Backwell United in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset Football League on Saturday, December 21 (3p.m.).

Fourth-placed Minehead trail Ashton by eight points but have three games in hand, and manager Caig Carrr said: “We will have to be at our best if we are going to beat them. I understand they are bringing a coach-load with them, so we’re expecting a big crowd.

“I said at the beginning of the season I wanted a side which was committed - and would compete. I think we have this.”

Minehead beat bottom side Ashcott 5-0 at home in their last match and Carr added: “I think after the first ten minutes we were comfortable. It enabled me to give 'game-time' to a few more players than normal.

“I’m sure our players will turn up for the game against Ashton and give a good account of themselves.

“Obviously, overall, the club has been looking for stability. We want promotion but we don’t want to move too quickly.”

Defensive midfielders Rob Vickers and Bertie Lamar are both included in Minehead’s squad but Ollie Hole and Leon Loft are still missing through injury.
