IN A season with nowhere near enough football, Minehead U16 girls finally finished a stop-start campaign in emphatic fashion with an epic game against last year’s cup final opponents Isle of Wedmore. The girls found themselves 3-0 down inside 15 minutes which is unfamiliar territory for a side who had lost just one game in their 26 matches together. With some adjustments the reaction from the girls was incredible. They found themselves 4-3 up at half time as they completed a truly unbelievable turnaround. The game finished Minehead 6-4. On the scoresheet Erin with x4 and Mabel x2. This was a fantastic result in hot conditions without a substitute. The girls truly deserved the win for the their efforts and togetherness. The result means the girls secured the runners up spot, narrowly missing out on a consecutive league title by a single point. The game also marked the end to youth football for some of the girls. This was a fitting conclusion for a side that have achieved so much together. A League and cup triumphant, an unbeaten season and some tournaments successes along the way. Dan Haran, the Under 16 manager, said: “The future for the girls game in Minehead is very much on the up.”
