MINEHEAD have a crucial away match against second-placed Ashton & Backwell United in the first division of the Uhsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday, November 30.

Minehead are in fourth place and trail United by five points, but have three matches in hand.

“We don’t know much about them but obviously they’re a good side otherwise they would not be second,” said Minehead boss Craig Carr this week. “Obviously, it is an important game for us, but we are not looking too far ahead. We are taking each game as it comes.”

Minehead expect to be at near full strength with utility player Martyn Phillips and midfielder Rob Vickers both back in the squad. However, experienced defender George Painter has ankle injury and will miss the game.

Minehead were due to play away to Glastonbury in a league match last Saturday but it was called off because of the bad weather.

“At first I thought the game was on because I had heard that it was reasonably dry at Glastonbury,” added Carr. “But I soon got a call to say it was raining heavily there and there would be no game.

“We have games in hand on a number of teams and it would have been nice to have played it.”
