MISSING four players, Minehead Reserves went down 3-1 away to Stogursey in the quarter-finals of the Taunton Saturday League’s KO Cup.
A full strength defence of Charlie Disney, Harvey Lovell, Andy Gubb and Myles Campbell-Farmer coped well throughout the first half keeping Stogursey to long range shots which Robbie Hamblin, on debut in goal, dealt with very well.
The hard working midfield of JJ Knight, Toby Morris and Captain Dan Vickers cancelled out the Stogursey midfield and a 0-0 score line at half time was about fair.
A key substitution was made by Stogursey at half time by bringing on Francisco Souza. Minehead coped well with everyone but found him a real challenge. He scored his first goal two minutes after coming on and his second after 58 minutes.
Forward players Andy Hall, Haiden Griffiths and Oli Jones tried hard but Stogursey’s defence stayed strong. Minehead brought on Luke Heath, Luke Batts and Lyam Scheepers. With 10 minutes left Minehead got themselves back into the game when Vickers fed Disney who played a well timed pass down the line for Jones whose pin point cross was met first time by Vickers.
However, their joy was short lived when Souza completed his hat trick three minutes later.
