PORLOCK missed a chance of going second in Division Three South of the Somerset Women’s Football League when they were held to a 2-2 away draw by Wellington Ladies.
For the first time this season Porlock were missing several players, so had to play 10-a-side with one sub. All went well for the first two minutes until Jess was involved in a challenge which resulted in her limping off with a badly bruised foot and a visit to A&E.
Porlock tried throughout to keep the ball down with good passing. However, Porlock’s first goal came courtesy of a long ball from goalie Hannah down the right wing. Aimee ran on to it and drove into the penalty box scoring a fine goal.
However, Wellington managed to grab an equaliser making it 1-1 at halftime. As Wellington also lost a player to injury, both sides agreed to change to 9 vs 9 for the second half which meant there was more space, and Porlock played much the better football with nice link up play.
A long ball down the left wing from Wellington was chased down by their player who managed to score to make it 2-1. Porlock kept pressing and created a number of opportunities but the goalposts weren’t quite wide enough!
Finally, a good passing move resulted in another goal from Aimee to make it 2-2. Hannah kept Porlock in the game with some brave goalkeeping, and as usual Porlock kept going until the end with everyone trying their best to get the winning goal. Chris, Aimee, Sarah and Kayleigh all came close but frustratingly it wasn’t to be.
Once again votes for player of the match were spread around several players, but Rhiannon and Kirsty shared the honours for solid defensive performances.
Porlock’s players were: Hannah, Kirsty, Rhiannon, Izzy, Aimee, Liz, Jess, Chris, Kayleigh, Helen and Sarah.
