Playing on the Weston-Super-Mare side's 3G pitch, Watchet were well into the game until two goals in the last quarter gave the home side a 3-0 victory margin.
Uphill looked the more dangerous outfit in the first half when most of their more threatening raids were halted by some good covering at the back from skipper Eben Harding.
Neither team had really fashioned a clearcut opportunity before the home side were awarded a free kick about 35 yards out after 20 minutes with striker Wilcox optimistically trying his luck and finding the roof of the net with a firm drive which deceived keeper Vinnie Jones.
Riley Willis came on as an early replacement for the injured Connor Jeromson and immediately caused problems on the left, but his cross on the run had no takers. A free kick from Jay Darrell found Billy Jones eight yards out, but his header lacked the power to beat the keeper and it remained 1-0 at the break with Watchet still well in the hunt despite showing room for a good deal of improvement all-round.
The visitors did give a better account of themselves on the whole in the second half until they reached the final third and found the Uphill rearguard resolutely defending their advantage. A shot from outside the area from Olly Prescott had the keeper diving low to hold onto the ball and a close range header following a free kick was blocked near the goalline.
Making his long awaited and welcome return after injury Brandon Walsh saw his 25 yard free kick also safely gathered by the keeper before the home team gained some breathing space when a shot from inside the box took a wicked deflection off Charley Clausen to cross the line with keeper Jones committed to diving the other way.
Watchet kept pushing men forward without being able to fashion the clearcut opening which would have given them a lifeline and salt was added to their wounds with less than 10 minutes left when a hopeful pass into the middle from their right flank brought Uphill a flattering third goal as it gently found its way inside the far upright.
With time marching on regarding games left to play Watchet's only saving grace as they remain just above the relegation zone is that the three teams below them also lost last weekend.
Watchet Town: Adam Jones, Josh Aspey, Charley Clausen, Eben Harding, Jay Darrell, Brandon Walsh, Connor Jeromson, Kieran Bailey, Alfie Lyons, Billy Jones, Olly Prescott. Subs: Riley Willis Harvey Henderson Chris Sully & Aaron Deeks (all used).
This coming Saturday, January 25, Watchet are away to Somerton Town who were bottom of the table when they beat the Red & Blacks 3-1 at the Memorial Ground earlier in the season, but have since picked up enough points to climb the league table into a position of relative safety.
Aerron Clausen should return to Watchet's squad to replace Riley Willis who continues his Jewson Western League journey with Bridgwater United, while Connor Jeromson is an injury doubt for the Red & Blacks.
