THE disruption caused by the storms last week meant that Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club Seniors were restricted to just one competition and that was a Stableford (red tees) on Friday.

Conditions favoured the lower handicap players particularly on the back nine; the scoring reflecting the difficulty. Martin Hole took the honours with 36 points, with Rob Poirrier in second place with 35 and Bob Arthington in third positio. two points behind with 33.

This week saw a distinct improvement in the weather and for the opening contest on Monday signs of spring were emerging as you could feel the first discernible warmth in the sun.

Conditions were good as Peter Young and Doug Hayhoe continued their excellent form in the 4bbb competition to win with 40 points. The previous day the pair had scored 43 points as the triumphant pairing in Round 4 of the Men’s Winter 4 Ball.

Second place with 39 points went to Dave Oatridge and Mark Watson while Roger Read and Sandy Lyons took third position with 38.

On Wednesday the Minehead Seniors took part in a hybrid Pinehurst Scramble (Pine-amble). The winners on count back with 66 points were Dave Oatridge and Roger Read, just ahead of Rob Poirrier and Tony Connolly. Third place with 70 points was claimed by Adrian Ryan and Dave Walmsley.

Round 5 of the Seniors Trafalgar was played on Friday in a bitter easterly wind, when scoring was always going to be difficult.

However, despite the inclement weather conditions, the winning pair Dave Oatridge and Roger Green gelled well for their 37 points.

Two points behind in second place with 35 were Peter Young and Doug Hayhoe while Malcolm Bruce and Mark Ruttley claimed third position with 33.
