THE Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors’ section started their week with a Pinehurst Greensomes competition. The format for this pairs competition is that both players tee off on a hole and then they choose which ball they prefer and play proceeds as per a normal Foursomes.
With several Seniors matches arranged for the week, the entry was relatively small, but nevertheless, the pairing of Mark Ruttley and Sandy Lyons dovetailed superbly to return a score of 43 points.
In second place with 41 points were Graham Smith and Neville Parsons while Trevor Stephens and Graham Stone claimed third spot with 39.
This time of year, there is a plethora of cups and trophies to play for and one of these is that the Seniors compete for is the Dexter Neville Cup on Friday, with the format being a medal competition played off yellow tees.
Another full entry witnessed a close competition where the winner John Perkins carded a nett 70 to take the trophy on countback.
Second place went to Chris Durman while three players recorded a 73; third position going to Sandy Lyons on countback from Pete Heddercott and Willie Brown.
