FOLLOWING Storm Darragh, Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club’s course took its share of disruption, with Warren Road being completely blocked while the 18th fairway and green took the brunt of the sand accumulation.
The course reopened on Monday when a few hardy Seniors ventured out in continuing windy conditions. With the passing of the storm, a dozen or so volunteers together with the greenkeepers swept the 18th green on Tuesday morning and collected over 15 wheelbarrow loads of sand that were deposited into nearby bunkers.
On Wednesday 13 pairings were drawn to compete in the Seniors Pinehurst Scramble that was played in a biting north east wind.
The winners with a nett 63 were Rob Poirrier and Nigel Trevelyan, one ahead of Pete Heddercott and Mark Ruttley, while Dave Oatridge and Richard Austwick took third place with 65.
The second round of the Trafalgar was played on Friday in constant light rain which permeated through every item of clothing and brought its own challenges in approach shots and putting.
It was therefore unsurprising that the stronger pairings came to the fore, with Dave Oatridge and Roger Green taking the honours with 42 points one better than Trevor Stephens and Dave Ball while Martin Hole and Bob Arthington were third with 40.
