MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club Seniors started their week with a Bowmaker competition with the winning team being Martin Hole, Chris Durman and Tim Tennant with 74.

Second place with 72 was claimed by Dave Walmsley, Doug Hayhoe and Graham Stone while third place went to Mark Ruttley, Dave Ball and Sandy Lyons with 69.

Near Arctic conditions including a biting north wind welcomed Wednesday’s Pinehurst Greensomes competition. Being able to swing with extra layers appeared to present most problems. However, Rob Poirrier and Sandy Lyons selected the correct wardrobe, winning the competition on count back with 35 points. In second place were Martin Hole and Bob Arthington while John Perkins and Tim Evans picked up third position with 32 points.

Once again bitterly cold conditions prevailed on Friday when the Seniors played a pairs Texas Scramble. Undeterred by the weather, a full entry took part in what proved to be a close competition.

The much-fancied pairing of Rob Poirrier and Andy Coward came up trumps and took the honours with a nett 70. Three pairs finished with a nett 71, Doug Hayhoe and Nigel Trevelyan taking second place on count back ahead of Mark Ruttley and Tony Connolly in third and Steve Gay and Malcolm Bruce in fourth.
