VARIOUS Porlock Cup matches have been played by the Seniors at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club, one of which saw Nigel Moore manage a hole in one on the par 3, 10th in his game against Doug Hayhoe.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite sufficient to contribute to a victory as Doug won on the 18th. Nevertheless, Nigel marked the event in time honoured fashion at the bar which was gratefully appreciated by everyone.
The first competition, a two ball Texas Scramble, took place on Wednesday when it almost felt like Spring. The result was a close run thing with Tony Connolly and Mark Ruttley taking the win on countback with a nett 67, just ahead of Trevor Stephens and Steve Woodbury. Richard Baker and Andy Giles squeezed third place on countback with 68, ahead of Chris Durman and Mike Kelly.
A medal off the white tees on Friday saw an excellent field of 29 taking part. With the pins in tricky positions it proved a very challenging round, the scores reflecting the difficulty. Only Andy Hodges mastered the course with aplomb, scoring a nett 71 to win decisively. Second place on countback with a nett 75 went to Frazer Lawrence just ahead of Doug Hayhoe in third.
