THIS week, Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club focused on the Seniors Club Championship that was played over two days in excellent weather conditions. A large entry saw some great golf played over the two rounds.

On Wednesday, round one produced several low-scoring performances with Dave Singleton (Handicap 25) taking the honours on countback with a Nett 67 that included five pars, from Sandy Lyons (26) and Mark Vickers (12) third with 68. Four players completed their rounds on 69 while several more finished with a below-par round.

The second round played on Friday saw the hottest day of the year, so teeing off early was advantageous. For Graham Smith (20), the conditions were almost immaterial as he blasted the course to record a 63 which included eight pars and a birdie on the stroke par four ninth hole.

In second place was Dave Singleton who carded a 68, while Mark Vickers repeated his good form by scoring a Nett 69.

At the end of the two days the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors Champion was Graham Smith with 132 (69 + 63), Dave Singleton was second on 135 (67 + 68) while third place went to Mark Vickers on 137 (68 + 69).
