MINEHEAD Golf Club staged the final of the 2024 Buchanan Cup and Plate competitions on Sunday - a men’s pairs matchplay competition open to visitors and celebrating its 51st year. Played throughout the autumn it remains one of the most prestigious events in the calendar.

The winners were Gary Wide and Daniel Barnes (Vivary Park) who beat Craig Sully and Gavin Paviour (Minehead) 4&3. Third place went to Bob Arthington and Craig Walsh (Minehead) who narrowly won 1 up against W. John Perkins and Peter Young (Minehead).

In the Plate Competition, the winners were Paul Fulbrook and Dave Farmer (Minehead) who won 4&2 over Nick Baker and Elliot Binding (Minehead).

Consolation 4BBB results on the day were Nigel Humphries and Mark Vickers (Minehead) with 39 points, ahead on count back from Dave Hillier and Chris Durman (Minehead). In third place with 38 points were Ryan Brewer and Tom Chedzoy (Enmore Park); fourth place going to Jason Abbott and Adam Farmer (Minehead) on count back.

There were also three winners in the two’s competition: Jason Abbott, Tom Chedzoy and Will Paton.

The 2025 Buchanan Cup will open for entry on December 9 where it is hoped to achieve an entry of 64 pairs, such is the growing popularity of this competition.
