WEST Somerset-based trainers Philip Hobbs and Johnson White continued their run of good form when they notched up a double at Newbury.
The duo, who have already enjoyed two trebles this season, had their first winner when Kikijo won the two and a half miles handicap chase at 3.25pm going off at 9-2.
The pair’s second success came when Wonderful Eagle won the last event on the card, a handicap hurdle over three miles and 52 yards, going off at 5-1.
Both horses were ridden by stable jockey Micheal Nolan and brings the yard’s total of winners for the season to 40 in addition to which they have had 58 horses placed, making it a good season all round..
However there is plenty of racing remaining including the presitigious Cheltenham Festival looking ahead to which Johnson talked about the yard’s entries.
“Our Cheltenham runners have thinned out a bit but our most likely runners are Thomas Mor who won a qualifier on Boxing Day at Wincanton and is in the Pertemps Final, and Saint Anapolina who won at Kempton last Saturday and he is in the Coral Cup.”
The four day Cheltenham Festival gets underway on Tuesday, March 11, and concludes on Friday, March 14 ,which is when the world famous Gold Cup takes place.
Taunton host their pre-festival meeting on Monday, March 10, when the action gets going at 2.05pm after which there are four further meetings this season.
These take place on Tuesday 25th March starting at 2.35pm, on the Orchard and on Wednesday 9th April when the first race is due off at 2.25pm, after which there are evening meetings on Thursday 17th April and Wednesday 27th April.
