MINEHEAD Falcons Under 12s were on their travels once again playing away at Ashcott. They were keen to get back to winning ways after losing the last two, and thankfully they did with a confident and convincing performance in a 5-0 away win.
Victory enabled the Falcons to stay second in Division One of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth League.
Minehead dominated the play in the first half and penned the home side in their own half, gaining a flurry of corners and half chances, but frustratingly that all important first goal didn’t arrive immediately.
The three at the back, Oscar Cox, George Gardener and Harry Parfitt put in an assured performance and didn’t allow the Ashcott attacking players any time on the ball or opportunity to attack. Along with the ever reliable goalkeeper Jack Lomax the back three allowed the team to settle and start to build up their confidence as the game developed.
Then a great flowing move started with Arthur Hill who passed the ball swiftly on to Barney Langdon in the middle of the park. He slotted a pass through to Charlie Ely who provided a great cross allowing his brother Jake Ely to finish neatly and put Minehead 1-0 up.
The opening goal clearly settled the team as they started to pass the ball around well and stretch the Ashcott backline. Just before half time Frankie Cox played a well-timed pass through to Seb Matcham who tucked it away well giving Minehead the 2-0 half time advantage.
The second half saw a dominant Minehead side who now had their tails up put a number of chances together with Olly Hill and Barney Langdon in the centre of the park spraying the ball around effectively.
One such ball put Seb Matcham clean through who rifled it past the Ashcott keeper making it 3-0 to Minehead.
This was soon followed by a great team goal started with George Gardener passing onto Harry Parfitt, which led to well measured chip which was cleverly flicked on by Charlie Ely and Seb Matcham went to finish it off getting himself a hat-trick making it 4-0.
The game was put well out of sight as a wonderful solo run and finish from Olly Hill gave Minehead the fourth goal and the 5-0 victory they well deserved.
Player of the match went to both Harry Parfitt for his outstanding performance in defence, and Seb Matcham for his tireless running and hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers head the table - by three points - after gaining a 3-0 home success over Tone youth Hornets.
Middlezoy Rovers Meteors kept up the pressure in third spot after beating Galmington Dragons Raiders 6-3 at home.
