MINEHEAD, playing their first home game of the season, maintained their unbeaten record with a 6-0 victory over Ilminster in the Under 16 section of the Somerset Girls Football League.

The game started with Minehead picking up where they left off from last week on the goal scoring front. Within five minutes the prolific Mabel gave Minehead the lead after some great work from Erin. Erin then got herself on the scoresheet soon after as she brilliantly flicked the ball over the defenders head: calm and composed she brought the ball down to slot home Minehead’s second inside 15 minutes.

Ilminster keen not to lose sight of Minehead early on adpoted a more defensive shape. Minehead welcomed debutant Izzy who showed what a great addition she’ll be.

Alongside her Bonita, Alana and Ruby in backline. Alana on the left not putting a foot wrong and Ruby stepping into a defensive midfield role breaking up play brilliantly! Combined the defence dealt everything that came their way. Stand in goalkeeper Emily didn’t have a lot to do.

As the 2nd the half started a new found energy from Minehead was unleashed and the blues set out to get early goals! They achieved this with some good build up in and around the area. The killer ball eventually came from Lilly who teed Mabel up for her 2nd of the game. With both Erin & Mabel on the scoresheet in typical fashion this season Evie joined them as the front 3 combined brilliantly for the goal of the game. A diagonal ball from Erin left Evie through on goal with still lots to do, a direct, pacy run into the box gave her the opportunity to strike the cleanest of finishes into the far bottom corner.

With a 4-0 lead Minehead started to rotate goalkeepers as Emily joined the midfield. The game entered its final quarter and the tie once again became a bit flat. This suited Minehead who were determined to keep that cleansheet in tact.

At the heart of this task was Bonita who for the 3rd game running put on a masterclass in running the game from the back line. Ilmister did forge one opening as the game was moving towards the final stages, that attempt was outstandingly saved by Jaz.

After that attempt the game belonged to Minehead once more as they added to the scoring. First Erin completed her brace with a trademark run through the defensive line. Then it was Mabel who wrapped up proceedings. She bagged her 2nd hat-trick and 10th goal of the season.

The opening 3 games have come with its challenges for Minehead with another on the horizon with a trip to an always strong Weston Mendip this weekend.
