MINEHEAD Cycling Club's Porlock Hill Climb double header was completed in bright sunshine on Sunday.
First up was the short and very steep Porlock Main Road climb. The winner was national star Cameron Biddle in a remarkable 10 mins 9 seconds.
Local riders did very well. Adam Fieldhouse (12.34), Mark Brewer (12.55) and Geoff Ware (14.23) were the top MCC male riders. Janet Hewlett, more usually found on her MTB, was the first local woman (19.42).
After a short interval attention then switched to the Porlock Toll Road, longer and not so steep.
National champion Ed Laverack loves coming to ride on Exmoor and his time of 15.42 ensured a comfortable victory. Adam Fieldhouse (19.18) again showed excellent form, Geoff Ware (23.55), Michael Myram (30.33) and Nathan Bale (31.12) were the pick of the local riders.
Louise Crossman (28.44) and Jane Weston (43.42) were the best of the local women.
Organiser Louise Crossman said: "Many thanks to all the MCC helpers, the Porlock Ladies for the catering, the Porlock Manor Estate, Porlock Parish Council, Porlock Oysters and Walker Blair Building for all their generous support. Today has been a super day.”
