PORLOCK Reserves hosted Bridgwater Wolves Colts looking to get back to winning ways, which they did in style, winning 9-3 at home in Division Two of the Taunton & District Saturday Football League.
Both sides came out of the blocks very quickly and it was Wolves who had the first sight of goal but missed. A quick move saw Danny Lynam break through the back line and slot home for his first goal. The pace of Lynham made it 2-0 before Oliver Heathfield opened his account for the afternoon to put Porlock two goals ahead of the visitors.
Next it was the other man in form Ollie Morris who continued his great goalscoring from this season with a lovely placed finish into the bottom corner to make it 4-1.
Ryan Cape was brought down in the box, and Lynam stepped up to score his hat-trick. Porlock smelt the opportunity to go in with an even bigger lead and with wave after wave of attack Ryan cape slotted the ball home to make it 6-1.
With only minutes left to play in the first half, a ball deflected off multiple Bridgwater Wolves defenders and ended up in the back of their own net to make it 7-1 at the break.
Porlock brought on some fresh legs after the break and a new back line which Bridgwater’s capitalised on to make it 7-2. Porlock then decided to control the game far better and had some very good passages of play, which ended with a goal from Cape.
Bridgwater Wolves however didn’t give up and knew they could utilise the pace of their young striker and that they just did as a long ball which was misjudged by the Porlock back line saw him latch on to the ball and then round the defenceless Joe Ferris making it 8-2.
This saw Oliver Heathfield enter the pitch once again and seconds after he picked up on a Wolves defensive error and smashed the ball past the keeper to make it 9-3.
Porlock Reserves wanted to out score their senior counterparts (the first team) and they nearly did just that as a lovely ball fell to the feet of Robbie Whitehead who could’ve blown on the ball and it could’ve gone in the back of the net. Sadly however the connection on the ball was far too good and he hit the ball over the bar. As much as Porlock huffed and puffed they could not get the tenth goal and with that the final whistle blew seeing the game finish 9-3 to the home side.
It was only the Reserves’ fifth league game of the season and they are currently ninth in the table with games in hand on almost all the teams above them.
