HORNETS 61 MINEHEAD BARBARIANS 5

FROM the joy of an impressive win at home to Clevedon, to the disappointment of being well beaten at Weston Hornets, the change was felt by all the Barbarians.

Minehead found themselves tries down early, and trying to play catch up. The Barbarians do not have a large squad, and when players are unavailable for various reasons, the pressure comes onto the remaining players.

The effort from the Minehead players was still evident. Willes, Huish and Buckingham were always looking to carry hard, or support teammates. While Hawker, Gower, and the other backs tried to make ground despite the pressure of the Hornets defence.

Minehead gradually gained some possession, and managed to exert some pressure, Martins started to put his opposing prop in difficulties, and the Barbarians won penalties which they kicked to the corners. Finally a try for Minehead. Willes won the lineout, Hornets defended the drive, Hole peeled away to the corner, and when the ball came free, Gower cross-kicked. Day collected the ball, and as he was tackled he slipped the ball to Fritz who crossed to score.

Hornets extended their lead before half time, and although Minehead were more competitive in the second half Hornets ran out impressive winners.
