HAVING been unable to train on grass for a full month, Minehead Barbarians Under 16s were a little underprepared for their away match against Wellington. However, for much of the game, the Minehead lads were impressive in both attack and defence.
An early try for Wellington was soon cancelled out by Cudmore, which Ahern converted. Swann at full-back was full of running and got his team onto front foot.
Minehead took the lead when following a strong scrum, an area where the Barbarians did well, White broke, linked with Browne, and winger Hughes darted over. Wellington scored again, and the teams were even at the break.
Due to a front row problem, Wellington needed uncontested scrums in the second half, which was unfortunate for Minehead as Blackshaw, Reeder and Tanner had been doing well for Minehead.
Sadly, the early part of the second half went badly for the Barbarians, with some less than top quality tackling, and Wellington took full advantage, running in tries.
However, the Babqs did not allow their heads to drop, and in the final quarter of the game hit back with tries from Ahern, White, and a second from Cudmore.
Player of the day was Ollie Ahern, and Archie Tanner was Barbarian of the day.
