MINEHEAD Barbarians Under 11s, boosted with several new players participating in their first ever rugby match, played their first home game against Bridgwater.

The squad took an early lead in the first quarter which showed they were in the mood to play some great attacking rugby.

Throughout the game the debutants grew in confidence as well as the whole team.

The second quarter saw Bridgwater fight back to nearly even the score sheet, but the young Barbarians weren’t going to have any of it.

In the second half the hosts upped the work rate and showed glimpses of what they are capable of.

Special mention to Jack and Emily on their first appearances, and Abbey and Poppy who were formidable aggressively carrying and dropping their opponents.

The coaches said: “Everyone played well and they should all be immensely proud of their team performance. They all deserve to be Joint Barbarians and Gladiators of the Day.”

Any year 6 pupils who would like to play rugby training is on Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm and Sundays from 10:30am.
