MINEHEAD Second XI were in Somerset League Division Three action on Saturday afternoon when they travelled to play against South Petherton.
The visitors won the toss and put South Petherton into bat. Opening bowler Gary Bennett was in fine form and claimed two early wickets before Adam Young with 19 and Joel Harris who made 26 stabilised the innings.
Once these two were dismissed Grant Richards with 38 and Sam Whitcombe who made 26 shared another partnership before James Davis accounted for both before South Petherton were all out for 168.
Pick of the bowlers were Bennett who ended with four for 14 from his eight overs, three of which were maidens while Davis took four for 28.
When Minehead Seconds replied they lost Gregg Howard early on before Oli Ahern and Andrew Stevens came together and shared a crucial partnership before Ahern was out for 30.
Sam Price made 10 and Adam Bishop 17 before Charlie Payne walked to the middle to join Stevens and the pair remained together until seeing Minehead to 170 for four in the 34th over, and victory by six wickets.
Stevens remained unbeaten on 50 while Payne was not out 43.
