WATCHET Town find themselves without a match tomorrow - after two successive victories in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

“You want to keep the momentum going when you’ve won a couple of games - it’s frustrating,” said manager Avril Cooke earlier this week. “In fact, we’ve only got one more game this year.

“It’s a pity because the lads are just beginning to gel - and to get to know each other. My worry is that we will drop off a bit during the break. I don’t want to start all over again. We have no football over Christmas and the New Year.”

Cooke felt their 2-1 win over Clutton last weekend was a ‘controlled display.’ She added: “We were not at full strength so it was a pleasing result. We’re up to eighth in the table which is a far better place than earlier this season. My intention has always been to ensure we do not get relegated. We’re in a far healthier position than we were a few weeks ago.”

Meanwhile Minehead are away again tomorrow when they play fifth-placed Somerton Town in the first division. Somerton, who have been beaten only once this season, have been one of the most consistent sides in the division in recent seasons.

However Minehead, in seventh spot, will be looking at a much better display after being held to a goalless away draw against struggling Street Reserves who were pointless before the game.

They know that Somerton will provide much tougher opposition.

Porlock Ladies, who put 18 past Paulton in Division Two North of the Somerset Women’s League last weekend, have a tough away game against leaders Burnham United this Sunday.

Minehead’s 100 per cent record will be at stake when they play at home to Shepton Mallet Sports Jaguar in the Under 15 section of the Somerset Girls League. The Seasiders have a three-point lead at the top of the table and have a three-point lead over second-placed Isle of Wedmore who have played two more games than their rivals.

There is a full programme of matches in the Taunton Saturday, Somerset Sunday and Taunton Youth Leagues.
