LYNMOUTH Shanty Crew is returning to Porlock to end another successful year with two shows in the village hall in aid of the Devon town’s new safety rescue boathouse and Epic Gigability, the tri-Services military veterans pilot gig club.
The ‘Songs of the Sea’ shows take place at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2, with tickets available from Porlock Home and Hardware, and Exmoor Uncommon, in Lynmouth.
Last year, the shanty crew visited Porlock twice and played to sell-out audiences on each occasion.
The crew came together in the winter of 2020 and realised they had a passion for a rousing sea shanty and a pint, and their popularity has been growing ever since.
They are part of Lynmouth Sailing Club which can trace its roots back to the early 1800s and whose mission is to ‘promote and preserve the pursuit of maritime activities, skills, history, music, and community along the Exmoor Coast for all’.
There will be teas and coffees and a cash bar on both Porlock shows.
The crew are also celebrating 200 years of the RNLI and the 125th anniversary of the overland Exmoor launch of the Louisa lifeboat from Lynmouth to Porlock.
