AN appeal for witnesses has been made by police who attended a four-car pile-up which closed the A39 near Minehead for several hours on Saturday, June 22.

It was the second crash near the same spot in two days and prompted renewed calls by residents and parish councillors for road safety improvements.

The Saturday crash happened at about 3.25 pm at Venniford Cross, near Tivington, between Minehead and Porlock.

It involved a red Mini Cooper, a blue VW Up, a black BMW X2, and a blue Ford Fiesta.

Police said only minor injuries were reported by the occupants and appealed for any witnesses or anybody with dashcam footage who had not yet spoken to an officer, to call 101 and quote log 674 of Saturday 22 June.

Both crashes on the Friday and Saturday resulted in huge traffic jams on surrounding lanes as drivers looked for another way past.
