A WEST Somerset man was appearing before magistrates in Taunton on Thursday (June 27) after an incident in Stogumber involving a ‘bladed article’.

A number of people were threatened by a man in the village’s Station Road area on Tuesday afternoon (June 25) and police were called.

Later, a 37-year-old local man was arrested at an address nearby.

Police said nobody was injured in the incident.

Dean Cohen, of Stogumber, appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of a bladed article and with common assault.

Acting Neighbourhood Sergeant Hayden Smith said: “While incidents like this are rare, we fully appreciate the concern it has caused in the community.

“Neighbourhood officers have been carrying out extra patrols in the area this week and if you have any concerns then please do speak to them.”

Police said anybody with any information which could help their investigation should call 101 and quote reference 5224164616.
