SEVERAL events were held in Williton over this year’s weekend of Remembrance, which started with a morning service on the Sunday in St Peter’s Church led by the vicar, the Rev Mark Phillips.

Uniformed youth organisations were represented and the names of the fallen were read by parish council chairman Cllr Peter Payne.

A concert in Williton Memorial Recreation Ground Pavilion was presented by trustees and the Royal British Legion and featured a performance by The Military Wives Choir, Taunton, making a second appearance in three years, who sang a wide range of music.

The choir was supported by Andy Doran, One Man and his Guitar, and the guest of honour for the concert was the High Sheriff of Somerset Rob Beckley, who was welcomed by the legion’s county chairman Maj Robert McDonald, who lives in the village, and Cllr Payne.

A traditional service of Remembrance took place at the war memorial in the recreation ground on Armistice Day led by Mr Phillips with pupils attending from St Peter’s School.

The children took wreaths which they had made and they laid them at the memorial during the service.

Poppy wreaths were also laid around the memorial by representatives of the Royal British Legion, Avon and Somerset Police, Williton Parish Council, and Somerset Council.

A congregation of nearly 100 people joined in the service, which this year was held in fine weather, and observed the national two minutes of silence which was held at 11 am.
