CUTCOMBE were in action in Division Three of the West Somerset League on Saturday when they made the trip to Fitzhead where at the end of a close contest it was the hosts who ran out the winners with two overs to spare.
The visitors team contained three members of the Pursey family for the first time this season - Dave and his two children Ella and Ben.
After being asked to bat first Cutcombe made 253 for nine from their 40 overs. Mark Matravers led the visitors innings and opening made 97, in addition to which Ben Pursey hit 37 his highest score for the team , while James Gregory made 16 and Jacob Worrell 15 and Robin Howe 14.
Pick of the Fitzhead bowlers were Ryan Mullins who claimed four for 41 from his nine overs, while Neil Mullins took three for 74.
When Fitzhead replied Ben Pursey claimed the top tow batters before skipper Ben Rottenbury came to the crease and proceeded to dominate the innings with an unbeaten 173 which helped to see the home side to 254 for six by the end of the 38th over. Sam Gregson Brown made 26 and Sam Everington 15. Ben Pursey ended with two for 42 and Matravers two for 64.
