MINEHEAD fell to yet another defeat when they went down by 142 runs away to Somerset Division leaders Wembdon.

The visitors got off to the dream start as young Oliver Groves (1-60) forced opener Everett to chop onto his stumps first ball of the game. Love (27) and Anning (14) steadied the ship though and played watchfully against the seam of Groves and Alfie Rucklidge (3-31).

The score moved on to 45 by the time Rob Spiers (2-36) had Anning caught, at point, but Trunks struck 45 off 36 balls. Some further clean hitting from Pope (36) saw his side up to 230-9 from their 50 overs.

The Minehead innings got off to a blistering start as Darren Sherring took Brockwell’s first over for three boundaries but unfortunately it was short lived as he holed out in the next for 14. Brockwell (2-29) and Pope (1-30) put the away team right on the back foot. Chris James, however, helped himself to an entertaining 43 which included 7 fours and a six.

His stay was cut short however as he fell to an unbelievable diving back-handed catch by the flying Brockwell at mid-off. This signalled the beginning of the end as Minehead were dismissed in quick fashion for a dismal 88.
