MINEHEAD Falcons gained a 6-0 home victory over third-placed Middlezoy Rovers Meteors in Division One of the Under 12 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

Victory enabled the Falcons to move to within one point of leaders Bridgwater Victoria Park Rangers. However, they were apprehensive before this game as they lost the away fixture against Middlezoy only recently.

Minehead started strongly and made the breakthrough - thanks to a well timed pass from Olly Hill which set Seb Matcham, and then Frankie Cox on his way and he expertly finished off a well created team goal, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage.

The visitors started to impose themselves on the game and created a couple of good chances but these were well saved by Jack Lomax keeping the Falcons in the lead.

From this point on Minehead settled into their stride and controlled the game, dominating possession and gained a flurry of corners and half chances, but sadly none of them led to a goal as the first half evolved.

However, a neat team move involving Frankie Cox sweeping the ball from the right through to the middle of the pitch in which Charlie Ely fed Jake Ely on the left and he put Arthur Hill through, and he neatly tucked away the second.

The visitors’ heads clearly dropped allowing Olly Hill the time and space to strike a well hit shot giving the keeper a real challenge to keep out, and Frankie Cox followed this up to make it 3-0 and bag his second.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Arthur Hill, Oscar Cox and Roman Davis dictating play and controlling the centre of the park. It left keeper Jack Lomax little to do other than organizing his back three and ensuring they didn’t lose their concentration. Even when the opposition gained corners Jack had the threat well under control.

Despite Minehead’s domination they didn’t add to their total until deep into the second half when a great pass from Seb Matcham fed Barney Langdon who buried a great 20 yarder top corner finish to give him a well-deserved, but rare goal.

This made the score 4-0 to the home side at this point although they probably should have scored several more goals.

The visitors heads had clearly dropped and Minehead could have grabbed more by the end. The fifth goal came after a neat finish by Arthur Hill before Seb Matcham made it six when he too found the back of the net.

The Player of the Match went to Jack Lomax for his confident display between the sticks, and for making a couple of fabulous saves early on in the match.
