ALTHOUGH they are still bottom of the table, Minehead Reserves pulled off their second win of the season when they beat Wyvern United 3-2 away in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday Football League.

Following their first win of the season the previous weekend against Staplegrove Reserves, Minehead approached this fixture with a very positive mindset.

Minehead got off to a positive start with the midfield of Oli Reaney, Sam Jackson and Dan Vickers controlling the balance of play. They could have been 3 or 4 goals ahead after 15 minutes with Finn Haran in particular causing nightmares for the Wyvern defence with his direct running. However his shooting was almost too accurate with good strong shots going directly at the keeper.

At the other end Wyvern looked dangerous but only really in the air from direct balls and set plays when they had several good headers but the accuracy was poor. It was Minehead though that took the lead when a free kick from wide left by Jackson travelled further than the keeper expected and dropped in over the keeper’s head.

It was a deserved lead but It was Wyvern who scored the next not long after to bring the scores level. Harvey Henderson sitting in front of a good back four of Myles Campbell-Farmer, Charlie Disney, JJ Knight and Harvey Lovell kept Wyvern out for the rest of the half.

On 38 minutes though it was Jackson again with good work down the right who unselfishly slid the ball across the penalty area for Riley Pope to slide the ball calmly home.

The second half saw Minehead play some wonderful football that belied their league position with some intracate passing moves in midfield in particular that Wyvern couldn’t get near. Jacob Worrall was on in defence to give extra height and to ease any pressure in the air and Tatenda Mashiri on for Pope caused problems with his strength and hold up play cleverly bringing others into play.

It’s from one of these moves that saw Jackson again slide the ball through for Haran to run onto and calmly slot passed the advancing keeper. Through the game keeper Robbie Hamblin produced very good saves when called on to do so. Oli Jones and Andy Gubb were now on in defensive areas and to provide fresh legs and albeit Wyvern scored with seven minutes to go, the blues saw the game out to complete well deserved back to back wins. Man of the match: Sam Jackson.
