MINEHEAD gained a splendid 1-0 away victory over joint leaders North Curry in Division Two of the Under 14 section of the Taunton & District Youth League - thanks to Reggie High’s late strike.
The first half was goalles - which was a fair reflection of the play. The second half started brightly and it was definitely Minehead who were knocking at the door the loudest. Ollie Pravato and Jacob Fouracre were putting in the effort, pressing high up the pitch and Sam Taylor-Pitkin and Charlie Bonar replicating that work rate in midfield. Theo Arkell, Alex Jones, Ollie Tisbury, and Harry Stone were standing firm and putting their bodies on the line time and again.Jake Delanty-Mitchell came the closest yet on 52 minutes when he hit the woodwork.
.Both sides kept searching for the elusive breakthrough and Minehead’s efforts were finally rewarded when Reggie High stroked home a close range finish from a throw in on the right side to beat the North Curry ‘keeper, who had had an outstanding game between the sticks. The goal came at 67 minutes with 3 minutes remaining.
Minehead continued to push relentlessly for a second, not giving North Curry a moment to reset and were able to see the game out with a constant high press before the ref blew the whistle to end the game.
The Player of the Match award went to Theo Arkell, who constantly cleared his lines and marshalled the defence well, but in truth, there were a number of players who could have justifiably won the award.
The result leaves Minehead in sixth place on 19 points, 10 points behind the league leaders, Middlezoy, but with four games in hand.
This weekend sees a trip to bottom of the league VPR Eagles, as Minehead attempt to recover lost ground after recent defeats and postponed games.
