MINEHEAD Seniors’ played a Texas Scramble on Monday last week which saw a large entry taking part.
The winning team with nett 62 was Steve Gay, Bob Arthington and John Burrow, second on countback with 64 were Dave Oatridge, W John Perkins and Tim Tennant, while Dave Walmsley, Tony Connolly and Edward Frewin were third.
Another full entry on the Wednesday gathered on the first tee to play a multiplier that included a yellow ball for which double points were awarded.
The early teams benefited from the better conditions, with rain forecast for late morning which did not disappoint. Normally, as a round progresses, you can judge within what parameters a winning score can be anticipated whatever the format, but not this format.
The winning team of Dave Oatridge, Tony Connolly and Nigel Trevelyan scored 166 points, 26 ahead of Martin Hole, John Burrow and Neville Parsons with 140, while third place went to Mark Ruttley, Andy Hodgson and W John Perkins with 131.
Rounding off the week, Minehead Seniors played a medal qualifier off the white tees. In a close competition, Sandy Lyons took the honours with a nett 72. John Burrow was runner up with 73 followed by Rob Poirrier with 74.
