MINEHEAD Men’s Second Xi this week led by Ben Druitt hosted a strong Taunton Vale 4s last weekend, and came out the wrong end of a 5-4 thriller.

Vale scord two quick goals inside the first quarter beforeJohn Clegg closed the deficit from a short corner, only to see Vale respond with a third.

The second half started well, with Jack RIchards making a run from deep to hammer home Minehead’s second, followed quickly by Clegg netting his second.

As time ticked away, Pete Cole scored Minehead’s fourth, but two from Vale saw them secure the win.

The 3rd XI hosted Mid-Somerset expecting to field a full team plus bench as the local farming duties had finished. However, starting the match with ten players, Minehead had to play possession hockey until reinforcements arrived.

As the rest of the bench appeared and momentum grew the midfield began to exert control.

The second half saw the deadlock broken with a Minehead short corner, which was then upgraded to a penalty, safely put away by man of the match Scott Fewings to seal the win.

The 1’s travel to Cullompton on Saturday whilst the 2’s and 3’s return to action on 3rd November.
