ALL THREE of Minehead Hockey Club’s men’s teams were in action after the half term break when most of the club went and enjoyed an excellent trip to Torquay for some mid-season rest and relaxation.

Back to business as usual last Saturday, and the 1’s had a comfortable 4-0 win over visitors Chard, with goals for brothers Chris and James Weetch, and a brace for Rob Speed who continues his campaign for the top goal scorer trophy this year.

The 2’s had a fruitless trip to Tiverton, and were unlucky not to come away with a point after facing the new table toppers White Eagles. Simon Strong’s first half short corner was clearly a ‘goal’ but was disallowed by the home umpire who adjudged it to have been stopped inside the D. Minehead held firm to deny Tiverton until the expected flurry of cards and suspensions arrived to reduce Minehead to ten then nine players, and enabled Tiverton to scramble a decisive goal in with five minutes to go.

The 3’s had an early trip to Bridgwater where they registered a rare 3-1 win with Scott Fewings netting two, and Richard Darlington adding a third.

The 1’s are now three points off the top of the table with only five matches left of the season; the 2’s sit in ninth out of the twelve in their division. The 3’s are settled in mid-table and look safe this year.

This Saturday, March 8, sees the 3’s host Bristol and West for the 12 o’clock match, and the 2’s play at 2pm against Bridgwater 3’s in what will be another tough match. The 1’s make the trip to Exeter to face ISCA in another crucial match - at the University for the 1pm kick off.
