MINEHEAD Barbarians RFC Under 11s have had a tough season so far with only one win in five games, as a result of which spirits were low and players sparks were clearly fading.
Training sessions have been targeted at specific aspects of the game where the Under 11s were giving the opposition too many advantages.
Last week saw them working on their rucking which clearly showed in the game against Hornets Under 11s where they put up a good fight at the breakdowns. Play started very slowly with Minehead conceding numerous tries and giving up before they had even started.
After some support from parents and coaches Minehead switched on and used their strong players for some good metre making carries and scored a fantastic well worked team try. Hornets fought back but the Barbarians fought just as hard.
Half time came and Minehead were down on the score board but spirits were higher. The hosts started off the second half well with a try after some fantastic offloads. Hornets got to the try line but once again Minehead dug deep, defended hard and at the first chance turned over the ball and carried well to the half way line pushing Hornets back into their half.
Minehead conceded a few more tries but kept up their hard work with great play. After another few good carries including one from gladiator of the week Jasper Cox, saw captain and Barbarian of the week Henry Perry score an impressive try for his team.
Minehead walked away with another loss but proved that all their hard work is paying off as the score definitely did not reflect the effort and class that they showed. Well done to all of the Minehead Barbarians Under 11s.
