WITH the Avon pitch falling foul of the icy weather on Saturday morning, Minehead 1st XV were left without a fixture in Counties Two Somerset - a disappointment as it would have been a battle between 2nd and 3rd in the division
However, at home the Barbarians 2nd string entertained the Hornets from Weston and gained a bonus point win in a 43-15 success.
First half tries from Songden-Brown, Parfitt, Bruford, and Reeder, set the tone for a strong display, much of which took place in a snowstorm! Watkins ruled the lineout, Parfitt was all action in the back row; it was good to see Beaver returning from serious injury, and Floyd led the dominant pack well.
Willcocks showed great hands as he tried to free up his backs, where Songden-Brown and Meagher showed glimpses of class on a day when ball handling appeared very difficult.
Hornets struck back after the break, scoring twice to add to their first half try.
However, further second half tries from Reeder, Langdon, and Payn, made the game safe, and allowed the players to retire to the warmth of the clubhouse!
There was a very strong showing from Harry Reeder, but the Man of the Match was Oli Parfitt.
